Why Slovakia?
We are currently focusing on Slovakia because it is a very beautiful country that is often overlooked by British Travellers. Slovakia is a mountainous country with lots of amazing castles, old historic villages, and magnificent town squares. It has a friendly population of only 5 million people. Slovakia used to be part of Czechoslovakia but is now an independent republic in its own right; it is boarded by Poland, Hungary, The Czech Republic and the Ukraine. Since the fall of communism Slovakia has been Europe’s fastest growing economy.
The capital is Bratislava and the official language is Slovak. About 30% of the population are fluent in English, but don’t worry, we will supply you with a list of useful phrases. The food is very varied with plenty of meat, cheese, pastas and pizzas, along with some extremely interesting and very tasty traditional dishes. Most foods are readily available, except for traditional English tea, which we will bring a ready supply of.
We are focusing in particular upon the Mala Fatra region in the North West of the country; this is an amazing place to be based, the birth place of Juraj Janosik, The Slovakian Robin Hood. The hotel in Terchova has balcony views of the surrounding mountains, a private BBQ area, incredible walks right behind the hotel, and the cosiest Kalibar you have ever set foot in.
The local village is only 10 minutes walk away. There you will find a good selection of bars shops and restaurants. The hotel is very well placed for plenty of activities and excursions; in the winter time this area is a thriving ski resort that has even produced an Olympic silver medallist.
We have chosen this hotel for its excellent cuisine, friendly family service and its second to none location. We also like the fact that we can offer you a choice of excellent summer and winter holidays here.
